Attention Characteristics of Dynamic Content by Visual Elements
摘要
Social networking services (SNS) are widely used for self-expression and marketing, with visual content playing an increasingly significant role. Features like Stories and Shorts on Instagram and YouTube effectively capture users’ attention, making them powerful tools for creators. This research examines how different visual element expressions in dynamic content influence users’ attention and impressions. The first experiment used a sample of YouTube shorts to verify how Visual Elements impact attention. Statements uttered during the experiment were recorded and categorized by element and assessment. The results of Experiment 1 showed that most statements related to “Text” and that “prominence” and “readability” were important for high ratings. This confirmed that Text significantly influences viewers’ content evaluation and both high and low evaluations. Next, to clarify how different Text expression methods affect users’ attention and impressions, we conducted Experiment 2 using a sample with reference to the WUS survey method. The results of Experiment 2 revealed that Text size, position, and color are factors that significantly affect users’ attention span and impressions. We believe that these are important factors that improve visual impressions. This research highlights that Visual Elements play a crucial role in shaping user attention and perception in Short Videos. Understanding these effects allows creators to design content that quickly attracts viewers and enhances message clarity. By optimizing the visual presentation of Short Videos, creators can leave a lasting impression, improve user engagement, and effectively guide viewers toward their main content or channel.
