Multiphysical Modeling of Excitation-Contraction Coupling in the Heart and Electro-magnetomechanical Effects in Active Materials

The need to model multiphysical phenomena has been emerging along with the technological developments in recent decades. The capacity to model multiphysical problems enables a deeper understanding and more precise prediction of real-world processes by coupling domains such as mechanics, electrophysiology, electromagnetics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and chemical reactions. This approach is applied in various engineering and industrial applications, design and performance optimization of products, as well as in medicine. The present book chapter demonstrates our state of the art capacity to model multiphysical problem of excitation-contraction coupling in the heart, soft electro-active materials, damage evolution in magneto-active elastomers and present future perspectives.
