Worldviews: Mindsets and Social Cognition
摘要
Worldviews or mindsets are ways we think about and interpret the world around us. They are subtle and largely operate automatically. They are learned through experience and through socialization. They are filters of the mass of information impinging on us and help us deal with a confusing and ever-changing world. Yet, they can be sources of bias, too, in the sense that they do not always correspond to the facts and truth. At the same time, worldviews often exist in the form of opposites or dilemmas for which we must either choose between alternatives or else reconcile tensions in a holistic manner. “Self-interest” and “other interest” are fundamentally different mindsets and have profound effects on who we are and what we do in our lives. Corporations, too, have mindsets that playout in whether they are socially responsible or irresponsible in their practices.
