Data mining is a tool used to analyze large data sets in order to find significant patterns and trends. The information obtained can be used to make decisions. The technique of association rules is used in data mining to find interesting relationships between variables contained in a large data set. This technique is generally used in the business area, especially in the sales area, to perform shopping basket analysis and to identify patterns of customer behavior. These rules are expressed in the form if A, then B, where A and B are called items or events. The rules obtained by performing the analysis are used for decision making. Data mining can be used in the medical area to improve patient care, improve medical treatments, predict diseases, and improve the management of health systems. By analyzing the data generated in the health area, it is possible to identify which treatments are most effective for certain subgroups of patients.
