The Impact of Virtual Education on Student Learning: A Meta-analysis

This article addresses the impact of virtual education on student learning, focusing on the Ecuadorian context during the COVID-19 pandemic, seeking to create a friendly environment that allows contributing to the needs of students. This study is based on a systematic review of the impact of virtual education on different aspects of student learning, including virtual teaching techniques, virtual learning environments (VLEs), virtual (VR) and augmented reality (AR), student satisfaction, and the specific context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The results show that virtual teaching and the use of VLEs significantly increase motivation and academic performance. Furthermore, VR and AR technologies offer immersive experiences that improve participation and knowledge retention. In Ecuador, the forced transition to virtual education during the pandemic was welcomed by both students and teachers, highlighting flexibility and accessibility as main advantages. However, the study also points out the importance of improving technological infrastructure and teacher training to maximize the benefits of virtual education. This meta-analysis provides a comprehensive, evidence-based view of the strengths and weaknesses of virtual education on student learning, highlighting the need for continuous adaptations to ensure inclusive and quality education.
