Leveraging GIS and Remote Sensing for Agricultural Advancement and Economic Development
摘要
Agriculture plays a major role in the economic development of the country. It contributes to the economic development of the country by providing food, raw materials, and employment to a vast army of uneducated, backward, and unskilled labour. But, in most of the country, agriculture faces lots of difficulty due to the absence of expertise for assessing the suitability of the land in terms of soil moisture, erosion, soil degradation, and many more. The absence of a communication network among farmers, the lack of up-to-date weather information, and the unawareness of crop suitability for specific times, result in significant losses for farmers. On the other hand, integrating digital technologies in agriculture holds immense potential to amplify its impact on the economy. This digitization can foster GDP growth, spur job opportunities, alleviate poverty, and foster comprehensive socio-economic advancement. The Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) play a vital role in the advancement of agriculture in various aspects such as Precision Agriculture, crop monitoring and management, irrigation management, farm planning, water and soil management, weather prediction, climate change adaptation and many more. In this article, we explore various models, architectures, protocols, and policies of geospatial tools, specifically GIS and RS. For gathering accurate and timely data about the characteristics, range, borders, and temporal patterns of natural resources, these instruments are essential. Such information is essential for the efficient monitoring and management of agricultural yield.
