Masters Behind the Machine
摘要
This chapter examines whether VR can function as a space for worship despite lacking consecration. While reliant on material infrastructure, VR remains a social construct shaped by unknown ethical forces, raising concerns about its suitability for divine encounter. Virtual mediation replaces sacramental mediation, distancing believers from sacred reality and fostering depersonalization. As a social institution and cultural mediator, VR reshapes religious experience, language, and interaction, shifting worship toward abstraction. This challenges traditional sacred space and spiritual authenticity, questioning whether a secular, human-designed environment can truly facilitate a genuine encounter with the divine.
