Toward a Disability Justice Framework for Artificial Intelligence
摘要
Artificial intelligence (AI) systems have become essential tools that sustain the operation of various industries and state-services. Yet, these systems continue to be riddled with biases that perpetuate racism, sexism, ableism, and many other forms of oppression and marginalization. In the age of globalization and advanced technologies, marginalized social groups such as disabled communities benefit greatly from the accessibility and interconnectedness that the internet and other assistive technologies offer. However, AI biases continue to facilitate the normalization and operation of ableism. Grounded in a disability justice framework, this paper puts forth a transdisciplinary dialogue to better understand AI biases as they impact disabled communities. We offer a direction on how to address them using a disability justice framework for AI.
