Introduction
摘要
The first section describes the scope of the study and the principal sources used. It outlines the principal structures of Nazi propaganda. The question of how “totalitarian” Nazi propaganda, in fact, was is examined, both in the case of radio and the press and cinema. The growth of Nazi radio into a mass medium in the pre-war years is illustrated. Attention is drawn to the significance of the Battle of Stalingrad as a dividing line in this study, both in the tasks facing Nazi broadcasters and in the general reception to Nazi propaganda. The limits placed on Goebbels’ authority in wartime broadcasting, Allied bombing and access to alternative sources of information are indicated. The second section outlines the pre-war history of German broadcasting, especially the consequences of the Nazi assumption of power. Broadcasting structures and programming, as well as the beginnings of German television, are described.
