This book is a systematic exposition of argument dialectics (AD). Despite its name, argument dialectics is a logical approach to argumentation theory. The immediate antecedent to this book is in Part II of How Philosophers Argue. An Adversarial Collaboration on the Russell – Copleston Debate (2022), which it completes and develops. AD stands out among other theories of arguments because of three unusual features, which are explained in detail in this book: it is reasons-based, holistic and particularistic. Although AD, holistic and particularistic, differs from informal logic, atomistic and generalist, AD arises from informal logic’s own questioning of its presuppositions.
