The chapter shows the problems in preparing holiday programmes. It amounted, at the same time, to a clash between Nazi domestic radio’s continuing “normality” and the surrounding catastrophic military situation. Broadcasters’ uncertainty was mirrored in last-minute changes to the schedule. The inclusion of more Christian elements than in previous years, including carols sung by Vienna Boys’ Choir, is considered. “The Front at Christmas” replaced the customary Ringsendung and displayed broadcasters’ dilemma with the proximity of the fighting fronts. The Yuletide schedules bore many similarities to those of peacetime. Finally, Hitler’s unexpected midnight address at the turn of the year, as well as listeners’ reaction, are examined.
