The ‘Jazz’ Dilemma
摘要
In autumn 1944, complaints of so-called ‘jazz’ on German radio reached a new high point. A summary of the controversy hitherto is provided. The conflict between the more open approach of Goebbels and Fritzsche and the antagonistic attitudes of Party “purists” is described. The difficulties the Nazis had in defining jazz, as well as the disunity within the upper echelons of the Nazi state, became evident.
