In this chapter, I explore the idea of limits on ethical pluralismPluralism in the philosophy of Paul FeyerabendFeyerabend, P.. This centers around Feyerabend’s appropriation of John Stuart Mill’s notion of ‘experiments in livingExperiments in living’, although Feyerabend takes Mill’s ethical pluralism much further than Mill did. Specifically, I show that Feyerabend was conflicted between embracing an ethical pluralism without limits and a pluralism that does not allow undue suffering to be caused by an entirely unhindered ethical pluralism. I consider Jurgen HabermasHabermas, J.’ discourse ethicsDiscourse ethics as a potential remedy for Feyerabend’s conundrum but find it wanting as it stands. I consider a more fruitful path through the notion of an ‘appealAppeals’ in existentialist philosophy.
