Skill development and building learning organization are considered trending aspects in enterprises development, especially in pursuing survival and development after the crisis of Covid-19 in the business sector. In this context, the study explores how entrepreneurial competences (ECs) possessed by entrepreneurs in an underdeveloped economy promote the performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through organizational learning (OL) taking Yemen as a case for this aspect. Quantitative cross-sectional design is adopted and the questionnaire is the main tool to collect data conveniently from 400 respondents involved in running businesses in Yemen. The findings show that ECs significantly influence OL (β = 0.622, p = 0.001) and SMEs performance (β = 0.426, P = 0.001). Further, OL significantly influences SMEs performance (β = 0.302, p = 0.001). Furthermore, ECs indirectly influences SMEs performance through OL (Indirect effect = 0.188, p = 0.001) indicating partial mediation. This study concludes that the entrepreneurial competences and mindset of managers and owners in SMEs are essential for promoting the performance of enterprises directly and through enriching OL in the enterprises.

摘要
