Towards an Adaptive System of Language Acquisition
摘要
Keeping pace with time, methods involved in language teaching and learning are also undergoing sea change. Today, classroom learning is often supplemented with online learning. This opens a plethora of opportunities, not only for the learners but also for the teachers, who can customize the teaching material keeping in mind the learner’s background, learning needs and so on. Not only that; it creates avenues for interdisciplinary collaborations towards achieving the best results. In this backdrop, the current work aims to propose a framework of language teaching that classifies the learners based on their background information, creates customized teaching material aimed at teaching grammatical structure along with conceptual structure and delivers the same digitally. For teaching structure through concepts, the model uses the notion of image schemas, to generate different iterations of ‘same’ grammatical structures, albeit with slight difference in meaning. The material thus generated, will be use a computational model to deliver the content remotely, that learners can use at their own pace. This effort brings together the existing knowledge of Linguistics and modern day information technology to make learning fun and aid in communicative competence of the learners.
