The Relationship Between Mw and Other Magnitude Scales for Earthquakes of the North Caucasus
摘要
For 127 source spectra of regional earthquakes in the North Caucasus for the period 2008–2021 years, estimates of the spectral parameters of earthquake sources were made using the Brune source model. The average value of the seismic moment M0 and moment magnitude Mw were obtained. Relationship between magnitude M, obtained by recalculation from Rautian energy class KP, with other magnitude scales M*: mbISC, mbGS RAS – teleseismic magnitudes based on body P-wave, Mw – moment magnitude and local magnitude ML. A detailed study of intermagnitude relationships was carried out and, assuming a linear relationship, a regression analysis was performed. It is found that the relationships between the magnitude M and ML, Mw show less error, than between M and mbISC, mbGS RAS and the slope angle b presents a linear trend with a slope close to one. Moreover, according to estimates of the interstation RMS for average values, Mw estimates are more stable than ML.
