Evaluation of Academic Green Spaces Within Campus Environments to Restore Psychophysiological Health and Well-Being of Students

Environmental stressors are linked to an increased risk of developing common mental health disorders to those in the urban areas. University students spend most of their time on campus performing several social engagements. The number of green spaces, an essential component of university campuses, is diminishing, limiting opportunities for students to interact with nature and the environment. Nature plays a critical role to assist such students with health issues, restore attention, reduce stress, and improve academic performance. This paper is an effort to study how critical it is to understand the role of campus environments and its influence on student life and their relationship with nature. We examine more closely the relationships that exist between students’ assessments of their physical, mental, and social well-being in the campus and their overall mental wellness. The methods by which campus greens develop into significant health resources for students on campus were uncovered by developing the modified “Healthy Academic Greenspace Framework (HAGF). In conclusion, this research paper emphasizes how crucial it is to focus on the health and well-being of an individual to boost holistic wellness in the academic environment, restored by urban green spaces rich in sensations with little to no demands. This research study’s findings unequivocally show how crucial it is to consider factors related to health and well-being and connect them to the tangible, physical components of the academic setting and the social living environment.
