A Critical Review on the Indicators for Evaluating Sustainability in Urban Infrastructure

Cities are well known for stimulating creativity, increasing output, easing commerce and business, and offering chances for a better quality of life, higher-paying employment, and simple access to healthcare and education. Currently the cities account for 80% of global economic activity and house 55% of the world’s population, with a predicted increase to 66% by 2025. Experts predict that India will experience an astounding 1.5% annual growth rate and a 1.34% urbanization rate in 2021, a significant increase from 19.6% in 2010. This quick urbanization highlights how urgently India’s growing cities also experiencing resource depletion, need sustainable infrastructure construction. This research will examine the viability of Indian urban infrastructure projects with an eye on renewable energy, energy-efficient construction, more mobility, less pollution, and efficient waste management. Sustainable urban infrastructure development depends on aspects including sound municipal administration, stable finances, economic expansion, mitigating climate change, and high-quality construction. However, sprawl, pollution, poor waste management, and excessive energy consumption are common issues that affect environment and make it difficult to allocate resources in Indian urban ecosystems. Therefore to address these problems this research provides a quantifiable framework which will help to measure the coverage of sustainable indicators of any infrastructure project.
