Simplifying Cybersecurity Checks for End-Users
摘要
The human element continues to represent an area of cybersecurity vulnerability, with user behavior often being seen as the cause of breaches. However, this is not necessarily as a result of users being disinterested or disregarding cybersecurity and may often be a result of the difficulty in complying with it. Indeed, one of the potential challenges facing users is ease with which they can perform security-related checks on items that they may be concerned about, as well as the consistency of the approaches that they need to use to do so. With this in mind, the paper proposes and implements a prototype for a one-stop security checking tool, which enables users to scan and check a variety of potentially risky items (e.g. email messages, files, URLs) for potential threats in a consistent and simple manner. The paper discusses the implementation and operation of the resulting tool, focusing upon the features available to users and the means by which the one-stop approach is consequently realized. There is also brief reflection on the positive user feedback that has been received based upon demonstration and use of the prototype implementation.
