Marine mineral projects have an incredible scope and use an enormous variety of data formats. Data include desktop research, field data, analytical data, and data necessary to meet reporting requirements. Data are sourced and generated from multiple collaborators representing numerous research groups and include government agencies, industry, educational institutions, and nonprofit entities. This diverse project data infrastructure requires meticulous data management practices and a strategy to disseminate information amongst stakeholders while considering efficiency and cost. The primary objective of precisely determining project conditions is achieved through comprehensive data integration. Such integration supports environmental and mineral assessment and assists stakeholders with marine spatial planning necessary for program and resource management. This chapter explores options, protocols, and challenges in the current data management landscape for marine mineral projects, including a summarized case study of exploration licensing characterization achieved through data integration.
