As China’s population continues to age, emotional expression difficulties and social isolation among the older adults are becoming increasingly prominent issues. This study developed a virtual reality system called Memoire, which guides older adults to narrate personal experiences, extracts emotional data, and materializes them into 3D-printed vases. The Memoire system facilitates natural emotional expression and promotes community interaction through these tangible emotional artifacts. The findings show that older adults formed strong emotional connections to the 3D-printed vases generated by Memoire, which not only symbolize their emotional experiences but also have the possibility of enhancing communication with community members. The innovation of this study lies in combining virtual storytelling with 3D printing technology, advancing both emotional expression and community interaction among the older adults. Future research will expand the participant sample and explore the system’s applicability across different cultural contexts, as well as its technical optimization.
