A discrepancy exists regarding whether or not the other’s gaze is utilized to determine crossing in an intersection. In this study, we developed a set of movies that were designed to control for the gaze factor and examined its effect on estimation of the other’s intention. The findings from two Experiments demonstrated that the other’s gaze affects the partners’ understandability positively and negatively depending on his/her subsequent behavior, indicating gaze has a bifocal effect on the partners’ understandability.
