Dysphagia
摘要
Dysphagia describes a difficulty in swallowing or a subjective sensation of food getting stuck. It can arise from oropharyngeal or esophageal causes. There are many causes of dysphagia, including inflammatory, mechanical, functional, and motor problems. Investigation includes a detailed history and examination, endoscopy, contrast esophagram, and esophageal manometry. Further testing is often ordered by the esophageal specialist, with general surgeons, thoracic surgeons, and gastroenterologists sub-specializing in this field. These newer tests may include EndoFlip functional luminal imaging probe planimetry and esophageal intraluminal impedance manometry, among others.
