Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the landscape of scientific writing. This revolution presents significant opportunities and challenges for researchers. AI-based tools offer functionalities ranging from grammar and spell checking to generating drafts of entire sections, such as abstracts, introductions, and conclusions. These tools can significantly improve efficiency, particularly for non-native English speakers. However, the increasing reliance on AI in scientific writing raises concerns about the potential reduction of human skills and critical thinking. This paper analyzes the impact of AI on various aspects of scientific writing, drawing on multiple studies to provide a comprehensive overview of current applications and potential future developments. Using the terms “ChapGPT”, “Chatbots”, “Scientific Writing”, “Artificial Intelligence”, and “Non-English Speaking”, we performed a non-systematic assessment of the most recent literature to produce a narrative review. We explore the benefits and drawbacks of AI integration, considering its influence on areas such as literature review, reference management, and the overall quality and integrity of scientific publications. Furthermore, we discuss the ethical implications of using AI in scientific writing and offer perspectives on navigating this evolving technological landscape.
