With a focus on sustainability, it is essential for organizations to learn how employees view these initiatives in order to maximize both environmental impact and organizational performance. Determining factors that influence such employee buy-in are critical, making this study a pivotal piece as it uses a dataset characterized by firm-level sustainability developments and productivity, in order to try and fill that gap, which can provide useful information for companies to implement through the lens of economic success, and homologous interactions towards the organizational ecological footprint. An empirical study was conducted using quantitative surveys among 180 employees. By showing that perceptions of sustainability initiatives affect productivity directly, the study adds to a growing body of research on workplace sustainability. While companies try to balance profit and the health of our planet, making sure you are working towards being a more sustainable company may be a great way to ensure your employees are more satisfied and that your company is performing better overall. A longitudinal perspective and exploration of the effect of specific sustainability initiatives across different sectors should be considered in future research to better clarify the relationships.
