The artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) is the surgical treatment of choice for patients with bothersome moderate to severe stress urinary incontinence. Despite its popularity and success, complications do occur and can involve any or all three components that comprise the device. In particular, failure due to the pressure regulating balloon (PRB) can be attributed to fluid loss, herniation, infection, or rarely, unrecognized organ injury during its placement.
