A satellite or platform is an artifact of electronic circuits and mechanical systems that orbit around the Earth and other celestial bodies. Satellites can be used for communications services, weather prediction and monitoring, Earth observation, navigation, military applications such as national security, and scientific missions. A satellite is made up of subsystems with specific functions that impact its operation, including the mechanical structure subsystem, propulsion, thermal control, power supply, telemetry-tracking-and-command (TT&C), altitude and orbit control, onboard computer-and-data-handling (OC&DH), and most importantly, the instrumentation corresponding to the payload. This manuscript summarizes on one hand the required space-relevant environmental tests to validate spacecraft functionality on Earth before being deployed in space. On the other hand it analyses the facilities in Mexico to develop space technology at UNAM, such as the National Laboratory of Space and Automotive Engineering (LN-INGEA).
