The Role of Virtual 3D-Models for the Surgical Treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma
摘要
Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common primary liver cancer. In the last years, surgical indications have been extended, allowing to resect cancers previously defined as unresectable. Objectives: The aim of this work is to show how virtual 3D-models can be a very useful tool for hepatopancreatobiliary surgeons planning the surgical treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods: A literature review was performed and our experience in this field is showed. Findings: Virtual 3D-models can be used in surgical planning. In this context, it is essential to evaluate cancer resectability, presence of any vascular or biliary variants, the future liver remnant, and plan the best surgical strategy for every patient. Technology is fundamental for the surgeon in selected cases.
