This literature review investigates the intersection of digital learning and Graduate Medical Education (GME) training, focusing on Generation Z medical trainees. Generation Z, the first true digital native generation, exhibits distinct learning preferences, heavily reliant on digital modalities. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated this trend, necessitating adaptation within medical education. Three overarching themes emerge: utilization and attitudes towards digital tools, efficacy and impact of digital learning interventions, and factors influencing readiness and satisfaction in clinical learning environments. While many studies lack theoretical frameworks, they highlight the commonality of the benefit of tailored educational strategies and digital integration in medical training. Future research should focus on GME trainees in the American medical system to understand if preferences shown in nursing and medical students translate to residency. Understanding Generation Z’s digital learning needs is vital to optimizing graduate medical education and preparing future healthcare leaders.
