Masculinities and Geography
摘要
This study presents a nuanced exploration of masculinity in the field of geography and argues for a comprehensive and intersectional methodology to analyze the complexity of masculinity. It critically engages with the concepts of “hegemonic” and “toxic” masculinity and questions their impact on the social dynamics and epistemological foundations of geographical scholarship. The discourse advances by emphasizing the need to integrate diverse perspectives, focusing on the intersections of race, religion, age, and transgender experiences. This enriches our understanding of the multi-layered nature of masculinity. Through a careful synthesis of contemporary research and theoretical frameworks, this study aims to advance the academic dialogue on masculinity and provide a solid foundation for future investigations into the intricate interplay between gender identities and their spatial manifestations. By expanding the discourse on gender, spatiality, and power, this work calls for a deep exploration of the complex intersections that define our socio-spatial realities. It proposes a refined analytical lens through which to interpret the evolving landscape of geographical scholarship on masculinities.
