Educational (training) migration is becoming increasingly popular in many regions of the world and its significance will only increase in the future. A lot of scientific and educational centers in Russia demonstrate great interest in studying the educational migration. This contribution provides an overview of issues of methodological developments in the field of educational migration by leading domestic and foreign scientists. Specialists in the field of educational migration pay close attention to the spatial component of obtaining higher education for various groups of young people, consideration of trends in international educational migration in Russia and adjustments to the migration policy in the field of regulating labor migration. They identify parameters that allow successfully promoting domestic educational services in foreign countries, analyze trends in increasing intergenerational educational status in the Russian society. A number of scientists in their studies pay special attention to considering educational migration at the interregional and intraregional levels. The choice of a region of the Russian Federation for conducting research in the field of educational migration is substantiated. Based on the study of socio-demographic passports of municipalities of the Republic of Tatarstan for the period 2014–2018, the authors analyzed in detail reasons for the return of university graduates to their places of permanent residence after completing their studies. Patterns of both theoretical and practical significance were identified.
