This chapter considers how to achieve quality vaccination clinics and services. It takes immunisers through the process from pre- to post-vaccination and the steps and processes needed to ensure the service is safe and effective. Prior preparation and planning are vital components of delivering successful vaccination services and individual clinics. Before considering individual vaccination clinic management, all vaccinators should be mindful of the aims and objectives of offering vaccination to their population. The aim of national vaccination programmes is to provide the population with routine vaccines to protect them as individuals and to provide indirect protection to others by creating herd protection for those who cannot be or are not vaccinated. Additionally, some vaccines are offered selectively to specific groups such as those with underlying health conditions, to provide individual protection because of their increased risk of poor outcomes from vaccine preventable diseases. The goal for vaccination service providers is to achieve high vaccine uptake for those groups within their population who are eligible for the vaccines. Good clinic management is core to achieving this.
