In this essay, I examine the relationship between value pluralism and freedom of association. I offer a brief account of value pluralism and argue that value pluralism provides the most complete explanation of the moral and practical experience of human beings. I then provide an elaboration of the nature and place of freedom of association in a political community comprised (primarily) of value pluralists. I claim that value pluralists would agree to consider freedom of association in its most capacious sense to include the reciprocal freedom of contract in voluntary transactional associations and in voluntary purposive associations of almost any sort (excluding those which use force or fraud), and value pluralists would place a rebuttable priority on preserving voluntary freedom of association as a responsibility of the political community.
