Remanufacturing represents a key approach within the circular economy, aligning with several sustainability principles, primarily in economic and environmental domains. However, establishing a production environment entirely dedicated to remanufacturing poses significant challenges for companies: high investment requirements, uncertainty regarding the quality of remanufactured products, and low acceptance of these products by end-users are notable barriers. A potential solution to these challenges lies in the sharing of remanufacturing resources and information among global companies involved in remanufacturing. Modern information and communication technologies have enabled the development of Data Space Ecosystems (DSE) in recent years. These ecosystems facilitate the connection of stakeholders and promote interaction, collaboration, and resource sharing. Implementing a DSE supports the concept of “everything-as-a-service”, transforming each element within the DSE into a service accessible to all registered users. This paper introduces the concept of “remanufacturing as-a-service” (RMaaS), outlining the key modules that a DSE for remanufacturing should encompass. Implementing RMaaS can reduce investment costs and provide additional benefits for companies through enhanced collaboration among remanufacturing stakeholders, ultimately increasing knowledge of remanufacturing processes.
