From National Populism to Post-Liberalism: When the American Catholic Right Justifies the End of Liberal Democracy
摘要
After analysing in our previous collective books on Catholics and U.S. politics how Catholic conservatism had colonized the American Right, and then how the Christianist shift of Catholic conservatism helped to create American national populism, this chapter describes how the American Catholic Right continued to evolve since the 2020 presidential elections and made a very specific contribution to the victorious 2024 coalition. Through their efforts, right-wing Catholics gave the MAGA project an unexpected post-liberal stance, forming a paradoxical alliance with some powerful tech-business libertarians.
