Atmosphere of religiousness and representations of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, has been adorned with various attributes and characteristics by the political imagination contained in national and international visual arts scene. It is not strange that in an Argentinian province like Corrientes, marked by a strong religious and colonial heritage, recurrent nods to religious figures appear over scenes linked to her miraculous apparition, devotional evocations of celestial landscapes as well as representations of the Virgin as a monstrous kind of mother, as in the case of the artists Blas Aparecido (1976) and María Julia Rossetti (1986). In this article those artists allow us to analyse singular forms of representation and relationships between the Virgin Mary and visual arts. These artists, on the basis of different formal, aesthetic and conceptual approaches, exercise operations of recycling and reinterpretation that offer singular forms of “desmadre,” that is to say, singular modes of undoing what the Virgin is as a mother in order to reinvent her figure on the basis of other political imaginations linked to the queer, plebeian, popular and Ch'ixxi ways.

摘要
