Studies about the relevance of Artificial Intelligence within firms at all levels still in progress. The usefulness and benefits of AI within firms find all their relevance actually. Yet, the influencing factors of AI adoption by middle managers (MM) has received little attention in the literature. This paper aims to investigate the factors influencing AI adoption by MM within firms. Based on a detailed review of previous literature related to Artificial Intelligence, Diffusion of Innovation Theory (DOI) and MM, we explore in this article the influencing factors of AI adoption by MM. Through an exploratory approach, the study uses a qualitative methodology and relies on a semi-directive interview with open-ended questions addressed to 12 MM working in different Lebanese firms. Our findings reveal five factors influencing AI adoption: AI readiness, environment constraints, the firm’s culture of innovation, and the competitive context. Our study contributes to existing literature by offering new perspectives on AI adoption by MM in developing countries. The findings create valuable insights for researchers and managers for establishing factors promoting AI adoption.
