Application of Innovation Theories to Oman Oil and Gas Company

An Oil and Gas Company in Oman, a key exporter and marketer and supplier of LNG in the global market, has a major problem regarding logistics and transportation of its outgoing and incoming shipments, which results to either delay in delivery, some additional charges and loss of its valued customers. To resolve these challenges the company plans to adopt a digital logistic management system with IoT and AI integration along with real-time data analysis. This research also employs Everett M. Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) framework to understand how the case organization can enhance the use of the system to augment its innovation practices. The study finds relative advantages, compatibility, complexity, trialability, and observability as having relevance for the process of adoption. The method of communicating with the change is with questionnaires and focus group interviews to get feedback from the employees. Readiness is also checked and where there is resistance, pilot projects may be done. Research indications imply that integrated use of the solution is expected to lead to a 15% decrease in operating cost and increased delivery precision putting the case organization on the map as a technologically advanced provider of LNG. However, issues like employee resistance, and the complication of the system can be a problem. Thus, staff training, stakeholders’ engagement, and the gradual integration of AI and IoT systems would have the potential to solve solutions these challenges and improve the operating efficiency. The proposed approach will not only surmount current logistics concerns but also reinvent the organization as a Global LNG player.
