摘要

An increasing number of international students are enrolling in U.S. colleges and universities, and many of these students are interested in remaining in the country post-graduation to build their careers. However, a number of hurdles prevent them from securing gainful employment. In this chapter, the authors discuss their collective journeys transitioning to the U.S. labor market and address the challenges that they, and many other international students commonly face. The study employs a qualitative research methodology through collaborative autoethnography (CAE) and is guided by social cognitive career theory (SCCT) to enable the authors to reflect upon the stages of their career path. The authors’ narratives serve as a means to generate new methodological approaches to interpret international students’ career advancement, build more empowering narratives within the extant research in the field of international higher education, and offer ways to better support international student’s career paths.
