Occupational Therapy Foundation for ARFID: Theory and Frameworks
摘要
Occupational therapy is a health science profession with a background in physiology and mental health [1]. Occupational therapists are dedicated to helping individuals reach their highest functional level. They are trained to provide “activity analysis” in order to examine where an individual has obstacles to reaching their full potential [2]. These barriers could be physical (e.g., a patient with a neurological disorder who cannot walk and eat per their prior baseline), psychological (e.g., a fear of vomiting) or related to organization (e.g., a young adult with ARFID who cannot figure out how to fit 3 meals and 2 snacks into their day). Regardless of cause, occupational therapists are focused on assisting a patient reach their highest functional level with the greatest independence level possible [3, 4]. Occupational therapy addresses a range of interconnected domains and elements to support individuals’ engagement in meaningful activities [5]. This approach ensures a comprehensive and personalized intervention strategy.
