Tim is an 18-year-old cisgender male with a history of generalized anxiety and previously diagnosed ARFID (sensory subtype). He had been doing well with his nutritional intake until experiencing an episode of viral gastroenteritis that resulted in vomiting and weight loss (Fig. 19.1). Upon recovery from the viral syndrome, Tim was not able to increase his intake, as expected, due to continued worry about vomiting. When seen by his PCP, he was found to be bradycardic (heart rate of 35 beats per minute) and had profound weight loss. He was referred to the inpatient medical unit for stabilization and management.
