In developing countries, adopting technology is constrained by many barriers that block progress and benefit from technological advancement. There are many hurdles these countries face in adopting new technologies, from energy grids and internet access to cost and capacity. Barriers relate to high technology acquisition costs, low educational systems leading to low technology literacy, and institutional weakness leading to ineffective policymakers. The digital divide further compounds these issues, leading to inequality in technology access among various socio-economic groups. This chapter addresses these barriers in the context of technology adoption in developing countries, contributing to the literature that aims to define pathways to overcome the major obstacles to technology that promotes sustainable development.
