Public–private partnerships (PPPs) are becoming a viable approach for tackling the challenge of net-zero emissions and climate action across the globe. PPPs have the power to accelerate new approaches and technologies, pool financing in support of new and scalable climate mitigation and adaptation solutions, and engage the best of both the public and private sectors to ensure efforts in combating climate change will be sustainable moving forward. As such, it is an examination of public–private partnerships in the context of net-zero emissions and climate action. The goal of this paper is to analyze the theoretical foundations and practical applications of PPPs in addressing climate change, examining successful case studies, and identifying critical factors that enhance their effectiveness. Different models and structures of the public–private partnership are discussed in the chapter along with how with the right design private sector engagement, technological innovation and equitable, inclusive outcomes can be assured from it. It analyzes the problems and challenges in implementing PPPs effectively, including misaligned incentives, governance complexities, and capacity constraints. This chapter consolidates existing literature and draws on empirical evidence to advance a comprehensive understanding of the potential of public–private partnerships to catalyze the transition toward a low-carbon, climate-resilient future. This can be considered crucial information for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers looking to collaborate to solve the pressing climatic crisis.

摘要
