Seventy-Four Minutes of Observation, But What Gain for Science?
摘要
All the five instruments on board Concorde-001 did work properly during the totality, and four of these observed the corona, the fifth one studying the behaviour of the Earth’s atmosphere. The scientific results of the observations are presented in this Chapter, some of these contributing significantly to the understanding of the heating of the corona. This was, and still is, a difficult question, since the temperature of the solar atmosphere rises from some 6000 °C at the surface, to above one million degrees in the corona. In addition, a peculiar and strange observation, made during the totality, led to the assumption of an UFO challenging Concorde! Soon this was dismissed.
