摘要

This chapter highlights the importance of managing timber exports sustainably for the twin objectives of revenue mobilization and environmental protection. Through mirror analysis, we find strong correlation between discrepancies in international trade data for timber exports, weak governance, and illicit logging activities. We also argue that, in Sierra Leone’s case, implementing an ad valorem export tax could enhance revenue collection from timber exports.
