Design/methodology/approach: This study comprises a literature evaluation encompassing research articles published between 2009 and 2023. The current research explores corporate governance and sustainable green innovation in the presence of media pressure on adopting and implementing green innovation practices. Additionally, this study reveals numerous influential characteristics, including transparency, anti-corruption measures, and board diversity, that influence the advancement of green innovation. The study specifically looks at how better corporate governance practices could be implemented to improve things potentially. Findings: To promote sustainability and support assignments that are ecologically friendly, this study highlights how important it is to incorporate corporate governance principles. The study analyzes recent studies conducted between 2009 and 2023 on corporate governance, sustainability, and environment-friendly initiatives. Examining how corporate governance affects sustainability and environment-friendly efforts, as well as what influences green bond issues, digitization, and environmental regulations. Practical implications: The current study suggests that companies operating in the renewable energy sector can improve their sustainable business practices by adopting more efficacious corporate governance approaches. Academics, decision-makers, and industry professionals interested in corporate governance, sustainability, and environment-friendly practices find this review to be an insightful tool. Social implications: To promote eco-friendly and sustainable projects that can improve social responsibility and reduce negative environmental impacts, it is critical to draw attention to corporate governance’s significance in this context. Originality/value: The review contributes by synthesizing current research on corporate governance, sustainability, and green initiatives. The study identifies factors influencing green innovation and provides insights into how companies can improve their sustainable business practices.
