Digital Technologies and the Dispute Resolution—The Future of Digital Justice

Digital technologies and innovativeness have evolved into the legal domain to provide easy and improved access to justice through the online dispute resolution mechanisms. The online dispute resolution systems have been designed in the digitally transformed world which can serve a set of objectives to achieve various goals in line with protecting the rule of law and carrying out effective administration of justice. The conventional methods of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) can easily be replaced with the online dispute resolution (ODR) mechanisms especially regarding Internet-related disputes which may arise in the online medium. Technology plays an active role in the decision-making process which can exercise fairness in terms of dealing with the disputes. The concept of artificial intelligence is well employed in the legal field to resolve business/contractual disputes with the use of different technologies like knowledge/rule based expert systems. This article will discuss the legal aspects, regulations on the ODR mechanisms which has been widely recognized and used by various countries due to the global COVID 19 pandemic situation and to explore on the ethical aspects in the implementation of ODR methods.
