Women inclusion in governance in both public and private spheres has emerged as a critical aspect of policy frameworks and initiatives globally. In the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), ensuring gender inclusiveness is of paramount importance in promoting equitable economic growth and sustainable development across the African continent. This chapter explores the intersection of women inclusion and the AfCFTA, highlighting the significance of addressing gender disparities and promoting women's economic empowerment within the framework of regional trade integration. The study is guided by the following questions; what role do women play in economic development? do the national laws of African States include women sensitive policies to drive the AfCFTA? What significant impact will the AfCFTA have on the livelihood of African women? Nigeria and Niger in West Africa are the study locations. Evidence-based gender-disaggregate data were collected to inform the study, and to monitor progress towards gender equality within the AfCFTA. This was done by accessing official government archives and other policy documents such as national laws and legislative enactments. It is hope that the study will not only help to harness the full potential of human capital, drive economic growth, and foster social development, but will also contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and the overall prosperity of the African continent, serve as a model for other regional trade agreements, and ultimately lead to a more inclusive and equitable global economy.

In the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), ensuring gender inclusiveness is of paramount importance in promoting equitable economic growth and sustainable development across the African continent. What significant impact will the AfCFTA have on the livelihood of African women? Nigeria and Niger in West Africa are the study locations. Evidence-based gender-disaggregate data were collected to inform the study, and to monitor progress towards gender equality within the AfCFTA.
