The present investigation aimed to assess the viability of harnessing energy from agricultural residues across various prefectures and crops in Togo's maritime region. By employing a novel methodology termed Tolessa, data was collected from Inseed in Togo to evaluate the energy potential of five prominent crops—maize, peanuts, rice, sorghum, and soybeans. The analysis yielded several noteworthy findings. To begin with, Zio emerged as the leading contributor to the total energy potential, with 1,634,286.3 Megajoules (MJ) of energy potential generated primarily from maize and rice residues. Yoto followed closely, contributing 871,239.9 MJ of energy potential, primarily from maize residues. In total, the estimated potential energy from all prefectures was calculated to be 4,673,064.2 MJ, highlighting the substantial potential of agricultural residues as an alternative energy source in the Togo's coastal region. The results of this study demonstrate that agricultural residues can serve as a valuable alternative energy source in the region, providing a substantial amount of energy potential. This finding has significant implications for the promotion of sustainable energy development in Togo and similar regions, as it offers an alternative to fossil fuels and helps mitigate the environmental impact of energy production.
