The nexus and synergy between climate-smart agriculture (CSA) and soil organic carbon (SOC) has enhanced environmental sustainability in the food production sector. This work aimed to close the gap in knowledge between CSA and SOC and their potential in achieving a sustainable environment. Trends in the literature were unveiled on how the concepts were shaped and institutionalized by mapping their intellectual structure. The study provided answers to the where, when, and how of CSA-SOC nexus trends in scientific literature. From Web of science (WOS), the literature search was performed for the last 20 years by applying specific search, document selection criteria, and bibliometric coupling method. After excluding articles that were outside the goal/scope, a total of 478 papers were qualified for bibliometric analysis. Cluster analysis and bibliographic coupling algorithms were conducted using VOSviewer software. The result revealed that outside Brazil, authors and institutions from nineteen countries collaborated with the Brazilian authors. Year 2019 (having 49 articles) recorded the highest. In terms of impacts to the scientific community, Soil and Tillage Research (having Rv: 0.136) and Field Crops Research (Rv: 0.120) had the highest impacts. University of São Paulo and University of Rio Grande Do Sul had the highest number of citations and total link strength with 15.06% and 10.25% papers, respectively. Considering papers that focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SDGs 02, 13, and 15 had the highest with 414 (38%), 340 (31%), and 324 (30%) papers, respectively. Findings from the study might support the Brazilian government in achieving its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) as agreed at the Paris Summit where the country promised to tackle climate change by reducing carbon emissions and increasing C-sequestration through agricultural systems. This finding might contribute to narrow the gap in knowledge by enhancing targeted debate for effective discussion and policies for a better Brazil and society.
